Thread Painting by HandThread Painting
Also called needle painting or silk shading, thread painting is an embroidery technique that uses long and short stitch and random stitch to show natural shading. This art form, where pictures are embroidered with the same approach as an artist would when oil painting, requires the artisan to select color and stitching techniques to create a work of art with depth of color and dimensional perspective. First practiced in China using silk, the technique has evolved around the world to include both Eastern and Western designs and newer threads in polyester, silk blends, and cotton.
